In 1848, the region previously known as Milfordville was incorporated as a village within the town.Once the Delaware and Hudson Railroad extended into the area, the town experience much growth and development as Oneonta became a railroad center, once being home to the largest locomotive roundhouse in the world.By 1908, the town was incorporated as the city of Oneonta.
